Gibson Guitar Raid

The start of the new school year each year is a time of trials and tribulations for many of us. Many youngsters think of it as “having to go to school” rather than “getting to go to school.” For parents, many bills are coming due for the semester and for annual subscription renewals. For Gibson Guitar, it means an August 24, 2011 raid from armed government agents confiscating their property. A similar guitar confiscation occurred in 2009 actually, and criminal charges have still not been filed. For more, see this article from Human Events on the 2011 Gibson Guitar Raid.

Nashville, TN's Gibson Guitars Raid

For me, it is odd because I just went to Nashville last weekend (see picture), and also have just connected with an interesting network, which seeks to edutain the youth (educate and entertain – my words – not theirs) with laissez-faire, free-market ideals akin to Austrian economics. The organization has just made its first preliminary video, visible at WeRockNetwork.com – you can also follow the WeRockNetwork’s Twitter account.

Gibson Guitar’s Website says of the raid: “Gibson is innocent and will fight to protect its rights. Gibson has complied with foreign laws and believes it is innocent of ANY wrong doing. We will fight aggressively to prove our innocence.”
